Early Literacy Class Registration

Monday August 26, 2019 – Monday September 9, 2019

Advance Registration for the Fall Session (Sep.-Dec.) is Required to Attend Early Literacy Classes.

Books and Babies (ages 18-24 months) is a lapsit program designed to introduce children to literacy and the Library.  The program consists of 30 minutes of stories, songs and fingerplays followed by 30 minutes of social play with library toys.  Children attend with a caregiver. Fridays 9:30-10:30.

Parent & Tot (ages 24-36 months) is an introductory Early Literacy Class designed to increase children’s comfort level with books and the written word.  Children listen to stories, sing active songs and finger plays, get up for active dances, and work on fine motor skills with an age-appropriate art project.  Class ends with the Clean-Up Train followed by the Rainbow Song.  Children attend class with a caregiver. Wednesdays 9:30-10:30.

Story Time (ages 3-5) is a transitional Early Literacy Class designed to continue children’s comfort level with books and promote independence at the Library.  Children listen to stories, sing, play active and literacy games, and continue to work on appropriate behavior.  Children attend the first half of the program alone, then are joined by a caregiver to assist with the art project. Thursdays 9:30-10:30.

Story Stretchers I (gr. K-1)An intermediate Early Literacy Class designed to increase independence at the library and promote learning through books. Children read together, play games, and make an art project. Children attend class on their own. Tuesdays 3:15-4:15. (Program is Full. Please join the waiting list)


Story Stretchers II (gr. 1-2)An advanced Early Literacy Class for children with more independent reading skills. Children read together, play more advanced literacy games, and make an art project. Children attend class on their own. Wednesdays 3:15-4:15.
