Mary Daboul, an active Kidding Around Yoga (KAY) certified Yoga Instructor, has been practicing yoga and mindfulness for over 20 years. She teaches yoga after school in the Longmeadow Public Schools, is the yoga teacher at Prelude Preschool of the Arts and regularly presents workshops focusing on early childhood.

All Ages.

Mary will be our guest Storytime and Yoga teacher on August 17th and August 24th.

In this week-long camp, children
will have fun while learning about
the scientific equipment they
already own—the human body.
Kids will explore the science behind cells, organs, muscles and bones through fun, hands-on activities.
Campers will use micro-slide viewers to see some of the tiny cellular machines that keep our bodies working and will play the "Cell game" to learn about the "stuff" inside cells.

Fun experiments will help campers understand more about their senses, brains,breathing, circulation and digestion. Children may create model cells, make Mad Mucus and a simulated stomach, build simple lung models, assemble a model skeleton, and much more.

The Stupendous Mr. Magichead Show is consistently acknowledged as "the funniest children's show around".

Aimed at children ages 3-10 and their families, his quickly-paced costumed character magic show features extensive audience interaction, plenty of clowning around, and trickery that will mystify even the most sophisticated grown-ups, including an actual appearance of Lulu The Magic Bunny in an empty hat!

Mr. Magichead personally guarantees that "your kids will be sitting down, laughing their heads off, for 50 solid minutes".

The performance is followed by 10/15 minutes of bunny petting and photo opportunities.

Ed the Wizard and his program “Reading is Magic” will kickoff “Summer Reading” at the Richard Salter Storrs Library on Tuesday 27 June 2017 starting at 6:30 p.m..
Inspired by the book series “Harry Potter;” Ed the Wizard weaves together the importance of building and maintaining one’s reading skills with his interactive magic performance. Throughout the performance the audience is challenged with questions, magic books are on display, and we finish with a question and answer session.

Drop-In Sensory StoryTime

Feedback from caregivers will always be welcome
Children of all abilities and stages of development are welcome at Storrs Library. Sensory-enhanced story time is an inclusive program developed for all ages, children through young adults, who are on the autism spectrum or differently abled, and is presented at a preschool level of development. Sensory Story time will meet on the last Saturday of every month from September through May. We will offer a consistent and caring environment to come together for songs and picture books.

A transitional Early Literacy Class designed to continue children's comfort level with books and promote independence at the Library. Children listen to stories, sing, play active and literacy games, and continue to work on appropriate behavior. Children attend the first half of the program alone, then are joined by a parent or caregiver to help with the art project.

Paper Crafting is a program where we will explore seasonal craft ideas using a variety of papers, paper techniques, and Ellison dies. Projects will be demonstrated and students will be able to use their creativity and imagination to make them their own.
This months craft: We will decorate picture frames with a variety of papers & Ellison dies. This is an "open ended" project: Heather will give you some ideas, but everyone's frames should turn out according to their own aesthetic, so bring your creativity and let's get crafty! (Please feel free to bring other materials, such as buttons, twigs, acorns, etc. to use to decorate your frame.)

Grade 6 to adult.

Participating in Bruins PJ Drive.

Storrs Library has teamed up with the Boston Bruins to participate in their annual pajama drive to benefit DCF Kids and Cradles to Crayons.

The PJ Drive’s goal is to collect 10,000 pairs of new pajamas for children in need.

Donations of new pairs of pajamas for babies, children, and teens can be dropped off at the library from February 1 through March 15, 2017.

Teddy Bear (Healthy Habits) Clinic

The Teddy Bear Clinic will teach children about healthy habits. Nathan Jamronga from MedExpress will talk children
through a doctor visit and interact with children as they observe and learn about hand washing, X-rays, splinters, etc. At the end of the program, Nathan will read Berenstain Bears Go to the Doctor, then children will have a chance to do some coloring.

Photos may be taken during the program, so please let us know if you do not want your child's photograph to be taken.

This Months Craft: Chinese New Year Paper Flower Ball
Heather will demonstrate how to make paper flowers and turn them into a traditional Chinese New Year Flower Ball decoration to help ring in spring and the Year of the Rooster!

We will work on completing as much of the project as possible during the program. However, should time run out, participants may stay to finish their flower ball or bring materials home.

Grade 4 to adult.

Reptiles Rock includes a mini zoo set up on a table with 10 to 14 smaller animals ( bugs, frogs, snakes, lizards, etc.) to look at. Plus a fun and informative
presentation by our herpetologist, of 4 larger animals, a large red or yellow foot tortoise ( S. America), a large monitor or Tegu lizard ( Africa or S. America), a 9 to 10 ft. boa or python( S. America or Myanmar/Burma) and of course the American alligator (USA) All are tropical or semi-tropical Rainforest.
Everyone will have the opportunity to handle both the snake and the alligator after the program - if you want to!
