The Richard Salter Storrs Library Board of Directors acknowledges the great importance of gifts and donations to the Library’s operations and to its future development. The Library welcomes gifts of money, property, real estate and materials.
The Storrs Library accepts gifts under the following conditions:
Monetary Gifts Unrestricted monetary gifts will be used to purchase materials or equipment, support Library programs or support the library in other ways the Library Board of Directors deems appropriate in keeping with the general mission of the Library. Donors are asked to fill out a donation form at the Reference Desk. Items purchased with your contribution can be commemorated with a special bookplate, acknowledging your generosity. If appropriate, the Library will also send the honoree(s) a formal announcement of your donation. All gifts to the Richard Salter Storrs Library are tax deductible. Monetary gifts offered with specific restrictions, including endowment funds, require Board approval of such restrictions before such monetary gifts are accepted by the Board. Restrictions must be submitted in writing. Restricted monetary gifts will be accepted on the condition that the specific use requested is consistent with the goals and objectives of the library. Any monetary gifts given to the Library with restrictions that are not approved by the Board will be promptly returned to the donor.
Annual Fund The Board of Directors may raise money for the Annual Fund through community-wide appeals and through direct solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations. Donations to this fund shall be unrestricted unless a specific condition is stated by the donor. Restricted donations will be accepted on the condition that the specific use requested is consistent with the goals and objectives of the Library. Any restricted donations not approved by the Board will be promptly returned to the donor .
Donations may be made to the fund at any time during the year with the understanding that these donations may be carried over to the next fiscal year.
All unrestricted monetary gifts received without a fund designation will be directed into the Annual Fund.
Gifts of Materials The Library welcomes gifts of books and other materials but reserves the right to evaluate, accept and/or reject, and dispose of them in accordance with the selection criteria applied to purchased materials. Donors who wish to give a gift that is not a circulating item are asked to consult with the Board of Directors on the appropriateness and restrictions of the gift before the item is donated. Restrictions placed on gifts of materials are subject to Board approval. The Board of Directors reserves the right to evaluate, accept and/or reject a gift. The responsibility for the appraisal or the estimation of the value of gift donations lies with the donor. The Board will not assess or suggest a value for non-monetary gifts for income tax or other purposes; any letter of acknowledgement will not contain a statement of value.
